Web Design Trends With Staying Power in 2014

Yep, 2014 is around the corner, and we can expect some awesome changes and some 2013 favorites sticking around in the coming year in terms of web design and web technologies. Here are some trends that we think will stay and come in 2014:

Content is King

As described and used very commonly in 2013, content is still king and we will surely be hearing about it a lot in 2014. It is still the actual content that will sell your product and get you the visitors.

Responsive Web Design

Responsive web design is nothing new as it has been ruling the web for about 2 years now. But, we thought it was important to mention because with the booming popularity of mobile devices, websites have to serve visitors on various devices featuring a myriad of resolutions. More and more websites will be going responsive in the coming year.

Storytelling

This is a new favorite of ours. Somewhat related to Content is King, storytelling is something designers have successfully started mastering in 2013. Being probably the most effective way of web communication, this is definitely something we want to see in 2014, too!

Long-Shadow Design

In the early months of 2013, we saw that flat design gained colossal popularity among designers and consumers. Long-shadow design is kind of a successor to flat design, but more like an addition to flat design. Featuring flat design’s core concepts, it adds some depth to the literally flat, dull interfaces. These two design trends are definitely here to stay for another year or two.

Multi-Layer Parallax Scrolling

In 2013, we started creating parallax scrolling websites, and quickly discovered the almost endless possibilities of this wonderful technique. For example, the endless number of layers mean endless creativity.

Video Backgrounds

Using video backgrounds have been extremely popular in the past few months, I’ve come across a myriad of them lately. And they look awesome! There is still a lot to improve on these, however, and this is why it’s going to be a major trend in 2014.

Conclusion

Be sure to check back soon for our thoughts on web design trends that are going out of style for good in 2014.
